PUBLIC DISPLAY OF APPLICATION DOSSIER FOR CONFINED FIELD TRIAL (CFT) OF GENE EDITED CASSAVA RESISTANT TO CASSAVA BACTERIAL BLIGHT (CBB)

In accordance with the National Biosafety Management Agency Act 2015 (as amended), which requires that before any permit is granted for intentional release of GMO’s there must be a public display of the biosafety applications for comments and contributions. The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) hereby announces a twenty-one (21) day public notice of the display of an application dossier by National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike, Abia State for the Confined field trial of Genetically Modified Cassava resistant to Cassava Bacterial Blight. This display will take effect from Friday, 6th December 2024, to Friday, 27th December 2024, to enable the public to provide input that will facilitate informed decisions on the application.

Description of the Proposed CFT

• • The Confined Field Trial is for the purpose of evaluating the performance of edited cassava lines in confined field trial site to confirm its resistance to CBB, by targeting the MeSWEET10A gene, which serves as a susceptibility gene for the establishment of the disease in cassava.
