PUBLIC DISPLAY OF APPLICATION DOSSIER FOR THE CONDUCT OF CONFINED FIELD TRIAL OF NEXT GEN TRANSGENIC COWPEA EXPRESSING THE CRY1AB AND CRY2AB GENES CONFERRING RESISTANCE TO MARUCA POD BORER AND α-AI-1 CONFERRING RESISTANCE TO BRUCHIDS

In accordance with the National Biosafety Management Agency Act 2015, requiring public display of any biosafety application, for permit to intentionally release genetically modified organisms (GMOs), for comments, the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) hereby announces a twenty-one (21) day display of an application dossier by Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR), Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State for the Confined Field Trial of the Next Gen Transgenic Cowpea conferring dual-mode resistance to the pod-borer, Maruca vitrata and resistance to bruchids responsible for post-harvest losses. The display, with effect from 19th April - 9th May 2024, is to enable the public to make inputs that would facilitate an informed decision on the application.

Description of the Product

• • The release is for the Confined Field Trial (CFT) of Genetically Modified Cowpea containing Cry1AB and Cry2AB genes conferring dual-mode resistance to the Maruca vitrata Pod Borer and the α-AI-1 conferring resistance to bruchids.
